Crisis Assistance Application Period Households facing heating emergencies, such as lack of heat, imminent utility cut-off, or unsafe/inoperable heating equipment, may qualify for Crisis Assistance through the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and the Virginia Energy Assistance Program (EAP). Applications for equipment-related assistance and security deposits are accepted November 1, 2025 – March 15, 2026, and applications for heating fuel and utility bills are accepted from the first workday in January through March 15. Assistance may include heating equipment repair or replacement, supplemental equipment (such as fuel tanks), security deposits, and heating fuel or utility payments. Fuel Assistance Application Period As temperatures drop, heating bills can quickly become an unwelcome burden. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is offering fuel assistance to qualifying households through the Virginia Energy Assistance Program (EAP). Applications are being accepted Tuesday, October 15 – Friday, November 14, 2025 to help with home heating costs, including the purchase or payment of wood, oil, kerosene, coal, propane, or electricity used for heating.
